Our Home

Est. 1990

We want our home to truly be a home for our residents – a place they can call their own, where they can feel safe and secure. Where they retain their independence, but also make up a valuable part of a truly caring community.

Britannia opened in 1990 and was purpose-built to provide an exceptional standard of care. Rather than converting a multi-occupancy building not quite fit for purpose, we set out to provide something completely tailored to the best-possible care – something that was unique at the time.

Our home is a bright, airy, warm and clean environment, with comfortable and accessible rooms, and big community areas. Because we were able to design our home from scratch, it has been built to specifically meet the needs of our residents, with plenty of room for flexible use, wide corridors to accommodate supportive aids and lifts to every floor.

Rooms

It is absolutely essential that our residents are able to feel at home, and we go to great lengths to make sure everyone who stays with us at Britannia is able to live with all of the home comforts they need to feel safe, secure and happy.

We encourage our residents to make their rooms their own as much as they like, while providing every amenity for comfortable living.

We are registered for a maximum of 39 service users, with 25 single rooms and seven shared rooms. 18 of our rooms have an en suite bathroom.

For our current availability, please get in touch – our team will be glad to assist you.

Facilities

We have a fully functioning commercial kitchen that provides a range of meals and snacks throughout the day, with 24-hour access to hot and cold drinks for all residents. We go to great lengths to provide a diverse cultural and dietary range of meals, including – but by no means limited to – Afro-Caribbean  cuisine, halal options, and vegetarian diets.

There are a large number of communal spaces and personal break out areas separate to residents’ rooms around the home, including a light and spacious dining room, a games room and multiple lounges.

We make sure that our residents can get help and support 24 hours a day with the use of assistive technologies, including a call care system in every area of the home, including all bedrooms, bathrooms, lounges and the dining area.

About the Area

We’re located in Girlington, close to the centre of Bradford. We are close to Bradford Royal Infirmary, West Park, and a wide range of local amenities, shops and cafés.

Located to the west of the city centre, we are easily accessible – we are a 10 minute drive, 25 minute bus ride or 40 minute walk from Bradford Interchange, and roughly 20 minutes’ drive from the M62.

Girlington, much like the wider Bradford area, is a diverse area, and a core founding statement of Britannia Care Home was to ensure that people from a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds could receive care tailored to them – something that, at the time, was incredibly hard to come by.

We are proud that our residents, and our staff, reflect the diversity of the area, and of Bradford as a whole.
